Monarch Butterflies - Finding Eggs on the Farm

We spent a couple days out on the grandparents farm. While we were their we did some schooling which happened to be on the Bb Butterfly unit. While grandpa was listening to me read to the girls about the life of a monarch he commented that milkweed grew all over the farm.

After our schooling was done grandpa offered to load us up in the truck and drive into the back of the field to learn what milkweed looks like.

We found the milkweed and actually found the butterfly eggs on the underside of the leaf. We also found some milkweed that had pods on them and silk looking seeds with little beetles all over them. It was really cool to see it first hand!

Later we learned how to tell the difference between a butterfly and moth. Then the girls found this beauty of a moth in our backyard:

The girls always have a lot of learning experiences when we are at the grandparents farm. Here Anabel is shredding zucchini for zucchini muffins.
