VIKINGS EXTENDED - MFW 2ND GRADE

I decided to extend our second grade curriculum when my daughter wanted too. I'm not saying i'm making it a two year extension like i've been reading a lot d, but instead just extending topics when we are really interested in them, whether that is a week or a couple days.

Anabel wanted to continue learning about the vikings so will be day two of the extension and it might be our last depending.

Now the math and spelling continues as normal, i'm not prolonging them, only the history/geography part of school.

We went back through the story we had read about. Then she retold me the story in her words. I wrote it down as she told me and then we copied it onto her pages.

We then learned about viking runes! They recreated the ruins using the geoboard and cuisenaire rods.

Then i had Anabel make he name with runes. We learned that vikings write left to right instead of right to left.

Exploration of North America Dover book pages.

Then we viking bread! It is a very easy bread without eggs or yeast. It's a very dense wheat bread.

The kids had a hard time stirring the bread and an even harder time kneading the bread lol.

It tasted good, warm with some farm fresh honey!

Then we made our self containing ecosystem to go along with out 'Thing Close to the Ground' unit.

Home to two black and yellow horned snails, two cat fish-ish fish (i forgot their names), several crickets and three orange ladybugs.
